5 Essential Crane Accessories You Won’t Want to be Without

A crane doesn’t work as a standalone device, and instead works in tandem with other accessories too. Below are a number of essential crane accessories that you can use with your equipment; some will be compulsory, others will just help with the smoother running of your operation.

A lifting medium

A crane simply provides the support framework for a lifting operation to be completed; it needs to be utilised with other pieces of lifting gear in order to complete a task. For this you will need a lifting medium such as an air hoist or a chain block, which will do the actual lifting and lowering.

Items to secure loads

You may find that some loads are loose or don’t have an obvious point at which a lifting medium can be attached to it. For this, there are useful accessories available, such as eye bolts, swivel eye bolts and shackles.

Beam trolley

If you’ve purchased an overhead crane, then you may consider a beam trolley to complete the necessary lifting and lowering tasks. This is a great accessory which usefully runs along the length of the beam, giving you a huge amount of flexibility when wanting to move loads.

Lubrication for your crane

We recommend keeping all lifting gear regularly lubricated. Although this isn’t absolutely essential, it can just be useful in helping to keep all gear operating smoothly and not causing any unnecessary abrasion or friction among the various parts.

Safety gear and personal protective equipment (PPE)

These types of equipment are more essential, and the equipment that you need will be dependent on the lifting operation that you wish to complete. Common types of equipment that you’ll find on almost all worksites are safety helmets, protective eye glasses and safety harnesses for working at heights.

Personal protective equipment is vital when working with cranes

Beyond the equipment that you must have for your operation, it may be worth considering added extras too. For example, items such as non-slip gloves or non-slip shoes can be very useful for lifting operations that involve again, working at heights.
