Articulated Jib Crane
Did you know that jib cranes can operate around corners and awkward obstacles! With an articulated jib crane you can easily.
What is an articulated jib crane?
An articulated jib crane may also be called a knuckle jib crane. In essence an articulated jib crane is similar to a conventional jib crane but with the addition of an extra, extended jib arm/boom. This is often called a forearm, which is fitted to the very end of the normal arm by means of a knuckle joint. It is this knuckle joint which allows the extra forearm to pivot and rotate through a wide arc.
Corners and obstacles
Due to the nature of the articulated arm it can be slewed around obstacles. Awkward items such as inconveniently positioned pillars or steel structures or even fixed machinery. For example; the first part of the jib crane may pivot through its arc and then hit the obstacle. The articulation of the 2nd beam or forearm can then further slew around the obstacle to reach the required area. Each arm can slew independently of each other.
You can see from this image the extra slewing area granted by the 2nd articulated arm, whilst the 1st arm also rotates through its arc’s range.
These articulated jib cranes can be floor/ pillar mounted (like the image shown) wall/column mounted or column/floor mounted giving you the widest possible range of options.
What we can offer
Cranes Direct can supply articulated jib cranes with three different lifting capacities from 125kg, 250kg & 500k. The length of the arm can be anything from 2 metres up to 7 metres in total. The 1st and 2nd arms are able to be manufactured in different lengths if required. This is due to the fact that they are able to rotate independently. These jib cranes have a maximum rotation of 360 degrees.
At the end of the forearm there is a special stirrup to enable the suspension of an electric hoist. The electric power feed runs through a special channel underneath the jib arms for extra safety. There is an option to order complete with a fixed electric hoist.
